Hello, I’m Sumeera. I’m a health, fitness, nutrition science and biochemistry enthusiast. And, here I will share with you my adventures in nutrition and healthy cooking. So, if you’re a woman in her 40’s or older, if you’re dealing with hormone imbalances, perimenopause, menopause or post menopause, this community is for you.
While I believe in modern science, I also find the wisdom of ancient sciences such as Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to be empowering in finding balance and restoring health in body, mind and soul. Ayurvedic philosophy, in particular, goes beyond to emphasize that there is a deep connection between the self, social wellbeing and the environment. And, with the latest evidence-backed science we’re finding the relevancy in many of these ancient concepts.
Dia Living is my home where you’ll find tips for a healthy and balanced lifestyle, simplified nutrition advice, benefits of certain foods, easy seasonal recipes, information on healing herbs and spices, and simple ways to create long term health.
I created this place especially for women who lead busy lives and want a simple way to achieve nutrition, health and well-being. I’ve been there myself, and my hope is that I can inspire you to create a simple, nourished and vibrant life for long-term happiness.
Before starting Dia Living, I had a successful corporate career working as an executive in advertising, tech and consulting industries. My days were long with work often spilling into my weekends. My work hours routinely consisted of running from meeting to meeting, and being a type A personality, I was often anxious about not getting more done. For many years, I also suffered from gluten sensitivity, poor sleep, low energy levels and compromised gut health, despite eating healthy and working out regularly. Then, in 2017, I was diagnosed first with a debilitating viral induced asthma (caused by a superbug) and then Lyme disease. It took me almost a very long year to get back to my normal self.
In the last year, I realized that the work environment stress and my work life was not sustainable and was impacting my health in profound ways. Finally, in December 2019, I decided to leave the industry with a strong desire to align my life, health and values for a happier me. For many years my friends and co-workers have been coming to me for advice on nutrition and natural medicine. While I’ve always been passionate about using food as medicine, since my Lyme diagnosis, I’ve been doing deeper into science and lifestyle strategies to increase health span, well-being, self-repair and energy.
Currently, I’m Director of Product Strategy and Operations at TED. I’m also a Certified Holistic Health Coach. I love learning about Ayurveda in a deeper way (I grew up with it) and herbal medicine which involves the medicinal use of plants to treat disease and enhance general health and wellbeing. I believe in treating body as a whole and complementing science with nature and evidence-based ancient knowledge.
Education: I have my undergrad in Management Information Systems and a global EMBA from a joint program between New York University, London School of Economics and HEC Paris.
Where I’m from: Born and raised in Pakistan. I have lived in London and now I live in the NYC area with my husband. We recently moved into a beautiful farmhouse north of NYC that we gut renovated.
2021 goals: Create a community of like-minded women who share a passion around combining clinical nutrition, biochemistry, latest scientific research and natural remedies for enhanced wellbeing. I also want to increase my own physical strength.
Favorite foods: Eggs, avocados, chillies, lentils, apricots, parathas, and guavas.
Favorite dessert: Anything with dark chocolate. I never liked much sugar.
